Thank you, Jim McMahon, for a succinct, thoughtful, and to my mind “right on” letter regarding “sustainable tourism” (May 26, “Durango’s lodgers tax isn’t funding sustainability”).
Your comments touched the very heart of this community's dilemma. As you point out, just having more and more tourists can exacerbate all the needs in our town – police, roads, housing, crowded and sometimes dirty environment, etc.
New ways to be truly sustainable are required.
