SW Civic Winds, BHS students to perform Saturday

The Southwest Civic Winds will present concerts in February to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the birth of Leonard Bernstein. The concert in Bayfield will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday in the Performing Arts Center at Bayfield High School.

Bayfield students will open the concert with students playing solo and ensemble pieces. A brass quintet will perform the Battle Hymn of the Republic. Performing are Dylan Hunt and Walker Thayer on trumpet, Aidan Jackson on French horn, Kathryn Tobias with her trombone, Jarod Lane on tuba.

A saxophone duet will play Hunting Wabbits, featuring Collin Jackson on alto sax and Dillon Hufnagel,

Several band members will also join the Southwest Civic Winds, to play side by side on two numbers.

The Southwest Civic Winds program will include three popular Leonard Bernstein compositions. Simple Song, from Mass, the Overture to Candide, and Four Dances from West Side Story will give a strong representation of the range of Leonard Bernstein's powerful music. In addition to the Bernstein pieces, the band will play music from the classic band repertoire by American and European composers.

Admission is $10 for adults; $5 for seniors and students; and free admission for children under 6.
