Take a bow, local snowplow drivers!

Glad to see some thanks from Suzanne Parker’s letter entitled “

Having lived here 20 years, this year was the most snow we have seen since February, 2008. I have had four plow trucks. I am a seafood consultant, governor appointee, commercial fishing vessel owner/captain but have plowed part-time commercially and privately for almost 50 years, including opening up the Purgatory lots and roads with their Cat IT.

Until moving to Durango in 1999, I was an Alaska resident since 1962, where the old-timers would say, “The Juneau snowplow drivers don’t know how to plow, they catch it on their plows before it hits the pavement.” Of course, that was a local joke since they did such a good job.

Give these guys or gals the credit they deserve – flash your lights a few times when they come towards you.

Worth repeating are, slow down, stay more than a car-length back, remove snow from your vehicle and gear down approaching an intersection or going down hills when speeds less than 40 mph are required.

Thank you, plow truck drivers, for clearing our roads and keeping them safe!
