Shame on us, Durango. City water lines break due to the subfreezing temperatures. It’s a shame, but it certainly isn’t the fault of the random homeowners whose only involvement is the bad luck of being in the way of the resulting torrent.
It’s embarrassing that the city is hiding behind the legal dodge of sovereign immunity. This isn’t the Durango I know.
Let’s own up to our responsibility and pay for the damage our broken infrastructure caused to these Durangoan’s homes. It may not be fun and it might hurt our budget, but it’s the right thing to do.
