Talk about town: Durango Fiesta Days royalty crowned

Maddie Story was crowned 2018 Durango Fiesta Days Queen.

This year’s Durango Fiesta Days Queen is Maddie Story, 17, of Bayfield.

“It’s been something I’ve been dreaming about being since I was 8 years old when I was junior princess,” Story said. “It’s awesome to get to promote and be a part of the rodeo that I grew up being in.”

She was coronated as queen after an intensive process, including a horsemanship contest, written test, an interview with judges and a modeling contest.

The title of Rodeo Queen comes with the responsibility of being a public face for Durango Fiesta Days and promoting the event.

Story hopes to use her position to be a leader and inspire other girls to enter the contest.

The Durango Fiesta Days Queen Attendant is Roma Kregger, 16, of Bayfield; the Princess is Lakin Hoover, 15, of Bayfield; the Princess Attendant is Cortni Cox, 15, of Ignacio; the Junior Princess is Kylee Pontie, 13, of Durango; and the Junior Princess Attendant is Liesl Chenowith, 13, of Bayfield.
