Former Durangoan Adrian Medina, far right, will play the Denver Nuggets halftime show with his band Severo Y Grupo Fuego on Friday. The Latin music band is based in Albuquerque.

Former Durangoan Adrian Medina is booked to entertain thousands of fans during a Denver Nuggets halftime show Friday with his band

This is the second NBA appearance for the Latin music band, based in New Mexico, which plans to play the hit song Despacito.

The band was invited to play at a Nuggets game for the first time last year after an employee of the Nuggets heard the band play at a fiesta in Santa Fe, Medina said.

“They liked us so much they invited us back,” he said.

He expects the crowd will be much bigger this time because the Nuggets are playing the Los Angeles Lakers.

Medina is the musical director, vocalist and keyboardist for the group, which was honored as the Band of the Year by the New Mexico Hispano Music Association in January.

Medina grew up in Durango and lived in town until he was 27.
