Talk about town: Fort Lewis College graduate’s work to air on Rocky Mountain PBS

The work of a former Fort Lewis College student will be showcased across the state later this week on Rocky Mountain PBS.

Callie Morris, who graduated from FLC last spring, produced a feature story on a Durango baker that will air on “Arts District,” a weekly show that highlights arts and culture.

Morris’ segment, “A Piece of Cake,” features the owner of Skillfully Decadent Desserts, Jocelyn Skill, who bakes “edible monuments to love” for weddings, according to a news release. Skill also produces cakes for events such as graduations.

Morris produced the piece with Rocky Mountain PBS producer-in-residence at FLC Carol Fleisher and assistant professor Stacey Sotosky in a digital media production class.

The students were asked to produce a piece about an artist, and Morris set out to find a cake decorator to feature after watching videos of cake decorating on Instagram, she said.

After Morris completed her piece for class, she spent an additional two months preparing the piece for TV, she said.

“I was just really happy that I could capture how much Jocelyn cared and how much emotion and care she put into all of her wedding cakes,” she said.

The story will air at 7:30 p.m. Friday on Rocky Mountain PBS.

Readers can also watch the piece online after its Friday release at rmpbs.org/artsdistrict/home.
