Talk about town: La Plata County farms earn special state designation

Waterfall Ranch, owned by Ed and Patty Zink, was be named a Centennial Farm designation last weekend at the Colorado State Fair.

Three La Plata County farms received Centennial Farm designation from History Colorado at the state fair on Friday.

The Colorado Centennial Farms program recognizes the important role agriculture has played in the state’s history and economic development. In addition, Centennial Farms provide open space and food. The three farms honored were:

– McCaw Cattle LLC in Ignacio, established in 1913.

– Sunnyside Farms in Durango, established in 1900.

– Waterfall Ranch in Durango, established in 1917.
