Durango’s newly unveiled Black Lives Matter mural on the side of the Everyday Gas Station apparently caught the attention of
The Times in its Sunday paper featured the mural, which was created by local artists Tatyana Trujillo, Allie Wolfe and a handful of volunteers, many of whom are children.
The article, which appears in the Arts section and is not online, quotes the artists, as well as several Black children from Durango who helped.
“Simply putting up the large image that features a Black person in Durango makes a statement because the area is predominately white,” wrote the author, Julia Bozzone, paraphrasing Phoenix Tarver, 13.
