Talk about town: Rosie the Riveter Day proclaimed in Durango

World War II had lasting impacts, and the women who replaced the United States workforce that left for the war will now be recognized in Durango.

The U.S. Senate and U.S. House of Representatives unanimously approved designating March 21 as “Rosie the Riveter Day,” referencing the iconic image of a woman in a blue shirt with a red, polka dot bandanna flexing her arm saying, “We can do it!”

And Tuesday, Durango City Council passed its own proclamation recognizing “Rosie the Riveter Day.”

A Durango Girl Scout troop will host a mother-daughter dance party to honor and celebrate Rosie the Riveter Day at the Durango Elks Lodge, 901 East Second Ave. A $5 donation will get you in the door, food and drinks will be provided and WWII-era and Rosie the Riveter costumes are optional.
