Talk about town: Your favorite Lincoln driver is not moving here

Some Durangoans over the weekend fell for a hoax website that claimed actor Matthew McConaughey is moving to Durango. Though, judging from this photo of him in Dallas Buyers Club, it looks like he would fit in.

No, no – actor Matthew McConaughey is not moving to Durango, despite what you’ve read, heard or seen.

A website called “KTY24 News” recently published an article that said McConaughey was “tired of the L.A. lifestyle” and would “rather just live in a place of full real, genuine people.”

The place? You guessed it: Durango.

“I’ve been to Durango, Colorado, a couple of times over the years and the people there are real,” McConaughey supposedly told the website. “It also happens to be one hell of a beautiful place.”

Unsurprisingly, the story is not true. A disclaimer on “KTY24 News” even says most of the articles are “works of fantasy or satire and are not true. The website is meant for entertainment purposes only.”

Still, that didn’t stop a number of people on Durango’s illustrious Facebook pages from falling for the ruse this weekend.

Even Durango City Councilor Chris Bettin got in on the fun, posting to his Facebook page that his long-time partner and former City Councilor Christina Rinderle was selected as McConaughey’s real estate agent.

“After I posted it, we got calls from some clients asking to show their property,” Bettin said, laughing.

There is a number of hoax articles that claim celebrities are moving to small towns across America. For now, Durango will have to be content with its laundry list of internationally renowned athletes that can be spotted around town.
