The first Taste of the San Luis Valley, which highlights several local restaurants and food producers, will be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday in Monte Vista’s Chapman Park.
“Inspiration for the Taste is all the great places for food here in the Valley,” Monte Vista Chamber of Commerce member Jerry Apker said in a news release.
The five restaurants/food companies participating include Monte Vista’s Mountain View Restaurant, Don Thomas Bakery and Quincy’s Steakhouse, Chef Charles’ southern-style barbecue food truck, and Sylvia’s Ice Cream & Treats.
Quincy’s Steakhouse will serve mini-prime rib sandwiches with a side of au jus. Chef Charles will have tastings and full meals of his locally popular fried catfish, pulled pork, beef brisket, fried okra and coleslaw.
Rio Colorado Grande Natural Meats will have its signature wild game sausages and jerky, and Colorado Farm Brewery, San Luis Brewing and Square Per Brewerks will pour microbrews.
There will also be about a dozen arts and craft vendors with items such as handcrafted soap, one-of-a-kind home décor pieces, essential oils and professional photo art.
The local music groups Indian Nickel and Mariachi San Luis will perform, and the Colorado National Guard will have an Humvee and jousting pit for the kids.
