This past week, a very special man suffered cardiac arrest at home near Bayfield. His name is John.
This letter started as a note of sincere gratitude to the 911 operator who helped my sister though initial CPR, the EMTs of the Upper Pine Fire District and the staff of the Emergency Department, Cardiac and Intensive Care Units at Mercy Medical Center in Durango who had a hand in John’s miraculous recovery from near death.
However, the more I thought about everything that took place over the past week that kept a great man from leaving us, the more desire I found to let our community know what wonderful, caring and compassionate people we have walking among us.
Our first line of credit has to go to the power of prayer from so many people near and far. There was an unmistakable presence of faith surrounding us that aided our ability to cope in this difficult time.
Secondly, every medical professional that took part, was not only outstanding technically, but each possessed an obvious caring and compassionate soul that not only aided in John’s amazing recovery, but had an immense impact on my family’s healing as well.
Thank you to all who prayed for us, offered support and helped ease the roller coaster of emotions. A strong man, family and community came together to preserve a special life.
A special thank you to the ICU nurses who will forever be in our hearts.
