I would like to point out to our national elected officials, Sens. Cory Bennet and Michael Gardner and U.S. Rep. Scott Tipton, that the State of Colorado did not vote for Donald J. Trump or for any of his proposed programs.
This is especially true of his proposed border wall. Indeed, at the Republican Party’s National Convention in July, their Party Platform did not include or endorse any border wall at the Mexican Border.
The stated position of the Mexican National Government is, “we’re not payin’ for no border wall.” So now, Trump is wanting the U.S. to “temporarily” pay for the border wall until he can extort the money out of the Mexican government.
I urge our elected officials, and I urge our citizenry, to reject in its entirety any notion of building or paying for a border wall. I further urge our elected officials and our citizens to go to YouTube and search under “John Oliver, border wall.” You will find an 18-minute video clip analyzing the costs of the wall: $12 billion just for the materials, and when labor, site preparation and other “incidentals” are added in, the total estimated cost is over $25 billion.
We could build five additional nuclear-powered aircraft carriers or a whole air fleet of fighter jets and bombers, or any number of infrastructure projects for this money, and we’d get something for our dollars.
With Don’s border wall, we’re getting nothing because the border wall is useless.
Tell our elected officials that, “we ain’t paying for no border wall either.”
