Text alert reminds Coloradans about extended stay-at-home order

Coloradans likely received an emergency alert on the state’s stay-at-home order on their mobile devices Saturday morning. The alert served as a reminder that the state extended its order until April 26.

“There are several questions on why the wireless emergency alert went out this morning,” wrote Colorado Emergency Management in a Twitter post. “The original Stay at Home Order (sic) was in effect until today April 11. It was extended this week.”

Gov. Jared Polis announced the 15-day extension during a televised address Monday. The order first went into effect March 26.

The governor extended the order based on data indicating that staying at home is Colorado’s most realistic chance to avoid “catastrophic” loss of life, he said during the address.

Colorado Emergency Management said the alert was sent out on the date when the order was originally scheduled to end, to remind people that the order was extended.
