Thank you CJ’s Diner, community, for supporting Space Campers

Have you heard of Space Camp? Young and old all over often delight in the idea of attending Space Camp and joining the ranks of astronaut wannabes and serious space nerds for a week of camp. I first heard about Space Camp when I was teaching math and science at Miller Middle School back in 2003, and I made it my mission to lead students who dreamed this same dream. In past years, Durango has sent over 65 students to Huntsville, Alabama, to attend a week of science and math focus, exploration, and team building at a camp.

I want to express a huge thank you to all of our community supporters who gave their encouragement and joined our local Space Campers for our fundraising dinner at CJ’s Diner in January. Thank you to Jerry Martinez and the staff at CJ’s Diner for donating their time and all profits from a fundraiser dinner that raised over $1,500 for our campers! We could not do it without you.

Thank you also to our friends, families, neighbors and teachers in the community for joining us as an investment in our youths. Each camper must raise $999 for camp, plus travel fees. We could not do it without you! Currently, we have nine students who will attend camp in June ranging in ages from 9 to 15. This also includes three returning campers. Thank you, Durango!
