Special thanks to Durango VFW Post 4031 and Bayfield American Legion Post 143 for repairing halyard, restringing and installing a new flag at Crestview Cemetery at the Corner of U.S. Highway 160/Highway 172. Special thanks to VFW David Latham, commander, who tirelessly coordinated repairs and organized flag placement, absent for years and now honored all our local veterans, and Davis Bachman VFW auxiliary member, Michael Mullins, Bayfield commander. Photo: Fire Capt. Eli Kelley, Engineer Josh Schmidt, Paramedic/FF Jake Sells and EMT/FF Jake Burton. Battalion Chief Charlie Amos helped coordinate, and Sara Masura, administrative assistant Durango Fire & Rescue.
Crestview Cemetery does not receive public funds for maintenance/upkeep and has sought help from local businesses to redo or replace signs, sidewalks, shed paint, fencing, gates, riding lawnmower, etc. This year, special thanks to Stan Neil of Stan Neil Construction for repairs to access road; CJ Gravel owner John Gilliland for gravel; Southwest Ag. for equipment; Pastor Stan, Cowboy Church for donations to repair large Concrete Bible, etc.; Terry Beavers, trees, painting Bible lettering; CDOT employees, Dusty Ledford, Craig McCall, Rick Caruthers for exterior maintenance; and Donald Clemons for upgrade to culvert and fencing along roadway.
Any businesses or individuals who would like to donate or help with future repairs can contact crestviewcemetery@gmail.com or 247-1099 or any board member. Thank you.
