Unfortunately, my family has spent a lot of time at doctors offices and in hospitals. Fortunately, we have been able to get excellent care close to home the majority of the time. Mercy Regional Medical Center here in Durango has taken care of several family members in multiple situations, and we have always gotten excellent care from the most professional compassionate providers as well as the whole staff.
From the receptionists to technicians, housekeeping, nurses, doctors, food service (some of the best food around), clergy, home care and from a group who probably doesn’t get as much attention, the caseworkers who coordinate everything for the patient and family. Our last visit was an emergency situation that needed a procedure the hospital was unable to provide.
They were unable to get him to Denver because of the weather. Between the case worker and the doctor, several hours were spent to make sure they were able to get him to an appropriate facility the same day. Apparently no small feat, as the recent flu epidemic has had hospitals a bit overwhelmed.
They also kept me informed as to what was going on as I was trying to make last-minute arrangement for home and pet care, pack and get ready to drive there the next day. I was an emotional mess at the time and don’t know what I would have done without all their help, as well as my wonderful supportive friends.
Thank you once again to the entire staff at Mercy!
