Know Your Dough, a Durango nonprofit that provides financial literacy programs tailored to the needs of local youths and young adults, would like to thank those who supported its fourth annual guest bartender fundraiser in June: Joanne Hard for the prize donation of a Woodhouse Spa gift certificate; Stan Crapo and Star Liquors for the prize donation of wine; Brian Dear and The Payroll Department for the tip-challenge matching donation; Ken Duncan and Western Wealth Management for the tip-challenge matching donation; Gervais and Associates for its financial donation; The Red Snapper for hosting; and all the community members who attended.
Durango’s community support is outstanding and we are grateful to be able to partner with people to help local youth.

The Boys & Girls Club of La Plata County extends a special thank you to the Durango Chamber of Commerce and Young Professionals of Durango. Through the summer, club teens, including leaders-in-training and junior staff members, participated in a “Great Futures Mash-Up Lunch and Career Exploration” series, which investigated careers possibilities, such as aviation, health care, arts, construction and building.
The series featured YPOD members who donated their time to present their education backgrounds, paths and careers.
A big thanks goes to YPOD president Zeb Smith, as well as presenters, including: Tony Vicari, Kelly Miranda, Laura Wagner, Sarah Shedd, Chris Shnurr and Henry Frederick. Appreciation also goes to Durango-La Plata County Airport and Alpine Lumber Co. for welcoming teens for site visits. Hungry teens appreciated lunch from Bread, Three Peaks Deli, Serious Texas Bar-B-Q, Subway, Fiesta Mexicana and J.Bo Pizza & Rib Co.
The club is committed to guiding youths to graduate from high school with a plan to attend college, enroll in vocational training, enter the military or join the workforce.
The mash-up career series will continue as part of the club’s after-school program.

San Ignacio Fiesta recently celebrated its 118th year, and we thank everyone who joined us and helped make it possible.

San Ignacio Fiesta committee
Thanks to Mary and Bill Husemoller for opening their lovely home for the Durango Friends of the Arts July luncheon. DFA members and their friends enjoyed an abundance of tasty dishes as well as the spectacular view from their spacious patio. An added bonus included Denise Leslie and Devin Scott, who entertained us with songs while playing their ukuleles.
