Gratitude felt after fire evacuation

Thank you to all the great people who made the evacuation of Lightner Creek a success. The hardworking firefighters and law enforcement folks were well prepared and responded efficiently. I salute them for their dedication.

I want to thank every Red Cross disaster relief team member and other county personnel for helping those of us directly affected by the evacuation. Every volunteer I met in the evacuation center went out of their way to make our lives as comfortable and stress-free as possible. Thank you and God bless you all.

I also want to thank all my fellow evacuees for the kindness, courtesy and respect they showed for each other in the evacuation center. What could have been a difficult ordeal turned out to be a rather pleasant experience. I met people and made friends with neighbors that I otherwise would have never known.

Finally, I want to thank Durango for being the kind of community it is. It makes me proud to call myself a Durangatang.
