The La Plata County Humane Society held the 11th annual Bark & Wine event on Nov. 10 at the Fort Lewis College Ballroom, which provided a wonderful venue. Almost 300 guests came to support the mission of LPCHS – to enhance and protect the lives of companion animals in our community. Bark & Wine is the annual fundraiser providing financial support for programs such as Behavior & Medical Rehabilitation and Community Courtesy Hold, among many others, which are free to the two- and four-legged community members, and therefore require financial support from fundraising and other donor-related programs.
We were most fortunate and grateful to have approximately 20 volunteers assist our efforts throughout the day and evening of the event, with many more helping out throughout the long coordination process. The immense support that LPCHS receives from the community in donations for the live and silent auction is truly remarkable, and this year resulted in over 100 auction items from just under 75 donors.
Bark & Wine 2018 had 14 sponsors, who are invaluable in providing the financial support necessary to produce this level of event. On behalf of all the members of Kiwanis Club of Durango, I want to express our thanks for your splendid contribution toward a very successful year. This year, the Kiwanis Club of Durango raised $5,000 at the golf tournament, $11,000 at the Pancake Day and $3,800 in silent auction. The money raised at the golf tournament and Pancake Day goes straight back into the community to enrich children’s lives.
