Thank you to all of Durango for the generosity shown during the ready-pack drive to benefit area firefighters.
The Lightner Creek Fire gave the community an opportunity to give back to the men and women who help to keep us safe, and 200 Ready Packs were assembled and distributed in response.
Many thanks to: Community Concert Hall Concerts at the Park for sharing the stage and audience members for donating $1,600, which made it possible to purchase ready packs; Tailwind Nutrition; Backcountry Experience; Eric and Shep at Gardenswartz; Pine Needle Mountaineering; La Plata Electric Association; and the entire Durango community.

Durango Fire and Rescue Deputy Chief Randy Black thanks community members for their generous contributions to the wildland firefighters. While the Lightner Creek Fire was still burning, Karen Barger, owner of Seasons Rotisserie and Grill, and Beth Drum with Alpine Bank teamed with Tailwind Nutrition to launch the ready-pack drive. They gathered important and valued items for the wildland firefighters, donated by community members. Donations included new and wonderful socks, bandannas to help firefighters breathe in the midst of the smoke and protein and nutrition snacks.
The sincerest appreciation goes to the Durango community, the folks who recognize and honor firefighters. Sometimes the smallest things make the biggest impact. Few people can imagine donning the heavy, stifling firefighting gear and working in unbelievable temperatures to fight fires. Firefighters don’t work for accolades or thanks, but it means everything to the dedicated and hardworking individuals that people cared enough to recognize their efforts.
Thank you again to the community, Seasons Rotisserie and Grill, Alpine Bank and Tailwind Nutrition for the generous and thoughtful donations to the wildland firefighters in our area.
