I want to thank the voters in District 3 for supporting me in the recent LPEA election. You saw through the lies and disinformation offered by the MAGA crowd that sought to distort the current state and the future prospects of our electric cooperative. While that contingent looks backward, LPEA is moving ahead.
Dave Peters, my opponent in the election, said during the public-input session of the June LPEA directors’ meeting that he believes the co-op is being run as a “dictatorship.” Apparently, Mr. Peters has forgotten that LPEA holds elections every year; I don’t know what could be more democratic.
Also, I find it ironic that some folks who are involved in real estate believe that LPEA’s recent 7% rate increase is the reason for La Plata County’s high cost of living. (As a reminder, LPEA had not raised rates since 2020, despite inflation during the previous three years). Yet, those folks make no mention of the 50% increase in real estate prices in the last few years. I can easily guess why.
Finally, the progress toward reducing greenhouse gas emissions and global warming is being threatened by the Trump administration and the GOP-controlled Congress. As an LPEA director, I’m working to do my small part to reduce this life-threatening pollution. To repeat what I said during my campaign, “Think globally, act locally.”
Opinions expressed here are strictly my own and do not reflect those of other directors or of the LPEA organization.
