The Durango Food Bank Board of Directors would like to publicly thank and acknowledge the incredible hard work and dedication of its director Sarah Smith.
The past year has been a lesson in extra compassion and giving for our community, and under Sarah’s leadership and expertise, The Durango Food Bank has seen an increase of over 100% in clients served with fewer volunteers and staffing required to make sure those in need are able to get the food and nourishment required to stay healthy.
Realizing a growing need throughout surrounding counties, the dedication and collaborative efforts of the volunteers and staff have turned The Durango Food Bank into a regional distribution center for food pantries throughout Southwest Colorado. The past year’s challenges have meant long days (and nights) of hard labor, imagining new ideas, implementing untested plans and exhaustion on the part of the entire team.
We look forward to support from the community as we face our next big challenge of finding a larger facility that will enable The Durango Food Bank to continue helping our neighbors in need in our current and growing capacity. The unprecedented needs in the community have made our current facility inadequate, and a larger, more efficient building is required to keep up.
Thank you to this wonderful, generous, giving population for all the financial and untold support you have shown this, and every, year. And thank you, Sarah, for being the leader we need.
