Thanks to owner for efforts at Purgatory

I went up to Purgatory last Tuesday to make some runs. I have a few thoughts.

The ribbon of snow I skied did not just appear from nowhere. It takes a lot of money for electricity to run for the pumps to push the millions of gallons of water up from across the highway to the top of the mountain.

Then, there’s the payroll for the snow making crew and the groomers to make a skiable surface for we early season crazies to ski and ride on.

Surely, all this money did not come from daily ticket sales. It came from one person’s pocket – our new owner James Coleman. If you see him on the street or up at the area, stop and thank him for taking a bleak brown mountainside and turning it into at least one continuous run from top to bottom.

Had he not spent the money needed to open this season, we would be twiddling our thumbs right now waiting who knows how long for skiable snow this winter.

So, a big thank you from this early season crazy.
