Recently, another letter (Dennis Pierce, Jan. 4) was published in the Herald from a local Trump voter – I assume by the tone of the letter – demanding that progressive and “traditional” conservative columnists be muted or minimized in the Herald.
Previous letters from Trump voters have essentially demanded that non-Trump voters should all just “get on board.”
Their letters continue to urge the Herald to cease publishing critical, informed opinion pieces and (likely) letters from progressive voices based on the angry responses printed. But these annoyed writers refuse to acknowledge that neither Colorado nor La Plata County voted for the mentally and morally unfit Trump. Just to remind them – our lovely state, La Plata County and Durango rejected the ugly, divisive rhetoric hurled by the Trump campaign and many of his voters.
Factually, the election results are as follows:
Statewide: Clinton received 1.2 million votes (47 percent), and Trump received 1.1 million votes (44 percent).
In La Plata County: Clinton received 15,500 votes (49.1 percent) and Trump received 12,500 votes (39.81 percent).
Of course, we know that Clinton received almost 3 million more votes nationally than Trump. Based on the math I learned in elementary school, Clinton clearly won Colorado and La Plata County.
Even though these letter writers’ views are plainly outnumbered and they comprise a minority in our state and community, the Herald continues to publish their letters and doesn’t censor their voices.
Ain’t America (and the Herald) already great!
