The arts awaken passion in children

What a delightful way to spend a Friday evening! An ambitious endeavor, these kids put on a terrific performance of Shakespeare’s “Macbeth.” Led by director Jason Lythgoe, the spirit and joy embodied tonight makes me marvel again at how teachers and the arts can awaken passion in children, and wish that we revered both more dearly.

Neither a parent nor a relative of any of the troupe, I thought it totally beat watching something on Netflix or a fancy meal for entertainment. I loved that the king was played by a girl, and one of the witches by a boy, subtly conveying that kids can be whoever they want to be.

For me, one of the best things about small-town living is the opportunity to enjoy and support endeavors like this. We have so many treasures in our community, and they can come from surprising places. Well done, Mountain Middle School and Troupe Triskaidekaphobic!
