Durango Diaries, the biweekly storyteller series hosted by
The event will be held at 6 p.m. at Durango Public Library, 1900 East Third Ave.
Speakers will include:
Diane Legner was born and raised in northern Illinois during a time when “girls” were not allowed to “glow” (also known as perspire). As an adult, she moved to Colorado where she attended college, then worked as a pediatric physical therapist. In her 80s, Legner is incredibly fit, has run marathons, bikes, hikes, does CrossFit and still teaches Pilates at the Durango Sports Club.
John Montle, 87, is a self-described hike-a-holic. In the last few decades, he changed his life by giving up smoking, starting to work out and giving up being a workaholic. He moved to Durango more than 20 years ago and has a robust life volunteering, hiking, playing golf and skiing.
He’s also actively involved with his four children, four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Major Lefebvre, in his 70s, is still the man to beat at Purgatory Resort. An expert skier, he’s one of the main people who helped build up the mountain and for whom The Legends Express lift is named.Originally from Maine, Lefebvre just missed going to the Olympics and, instead, went to Vietnam. Shortly after returning to the states in 1969, he moved to Durango where, he said, without skiing he wouldn’t be here.
Lefebvre continues to ski as much as he can, scoring well over 100 days on the mountain each year.
“Keeping young,” he said, “has nothing to do with age, gray hair, wrinkles or anything else. It’s having something within your life that means something to you – that every time you look at, you want to stay a little longer because it means so much to you.”
Season 5 of Durango Diaries will kick off Jan. 22 and continue twice a month on Wednesdays at Durango Public Library.
Topics for the season will include comedians, sex education, urban legends, inventors and more.
