In regards to the toxic spill into the Animas River, it is such a tragedy on so many levels. I am one of the three kayakers in the photo (Herald, Aug. 7) in the toxic acid mine release orange/yellow water.
We launched in our kayaks thinking it was runoff from the Red Mountain pass area that made its way down the river, and didn’t think in our wildest dreams what the truth of the matter was.
It’s a shame not to be paddling the river this week. Its a bigger shame not to take my kids swimming in the river next week. Its horrific to think of what may happen next year and in years to come.
I hope and pray, for the future generations of Durango residents, that this gets taken care of in a responsible and timely manner.
