I am an environmentalist to the core. I see climate change as the most crucial and escalating issue we face in our world today. I read the story about the Koch brothers and their political network (Herald, Aug. 1.) When asked about Donald Trump, they respond: “We’re focused on the Senate.”
Great advice for all of us with environmental concerns as well! The League of Conservation Voters has an environmental scorecard for all in Congress. In Colorado, we have Sen. Michael Bennet with an 84 percent high, Sen. Cory Gardner with 16 percent and Rep. Scott Tipton with a miserable 3 percent low. Both Bennet and Tipton are up for re-election in November.
I urge you to “focus on Congress” and support those who stand for renewable energy and a sustainable future. Solar and wind power have been proved to create more jobs than the fossil fuel industry and with none of the greenhouse gases that wreck havoc with the quality of life for us and future generations.
To ignore climate change is to ignore the science of 97 percent of the world’s climate experts. To ignore climate change is a choice Tipton and Gardner have made. To ignore our elected officials who represent the status quo of continued fossil fuel use is our choice come the election.
As the Citizen’s Climate Lobby states, “The job of the government is not to create political will, the job of the government is to respond to political will.” It is our job (the people) to stand up and create the will for clean energy.
Vote for the those who represent the environment. Encourage a market-based carbon fee to reduce fossil fuel consumption and increase clean and proven energy alternatives.
