I was surprised that the Herald gave Mike Sigman front and center on the opinion page (
As readers of the Herald well know, Mike is one of a handful of locals who routinely blasts liberals for every ill on the planet. I rarely find his letters intelligent or thoughtful, but just the same old blather from the dead brains of conservatives.
Sigman’s claims not to be a Trump supporter, but is supporting him in this piece, which regurgitates the same tiresome distortions that Trump loves to spout to froth his base. Fact: there are professional journalists in this country that work for left, right and everything in between media outlets; and they are not all liberals!
I guess Mike has never watched FOX news which is the most notoriously biased, propaganda-spewing, conservative news outlet in the country. And it was the most watched network for 16 years in a row. And, Shawn Hannity is the most popular of the five top radio talk show hosts, all of which are very conservative.
So, the media is not all a bunch of liberal journalists out to spread misinformation. There is plenty of right wing conservative journalism out there that may be reaching more people.
Lastly, Mike takes a cheap shot at immigrants – totally consistent with Trump. All the studies I have seen found no increase in crime rates due to illegal immigrants in the communities studied. The report cited was for sentencing, not crime rates. I can believe immigrants have higher sentencing rates due to poor legal representation.
I believe our local liberal (of course!) newspaper has much higher standards than our local Mike Sigman.
