The Out-of-Towners

Fitz Sargent used every ball in the rack to create “Tree No.3: Sphaerae sinae decussissexis.” Sargent may be best known in Durango for creating the enormous bicycle that is on display on the patio at Carver Brewing Co. He is one of six artists visiting Studio & for tonight’s “What’s Cooking in Gallup” show. Also showing will be artist and elementary school art teacher Edley Jang; Shane Van Pelt, a Gallup native who spent 12 years in New York City before returning to his home town; Rachel Schali, a painter who moved to New Mexico from northern California; Canadian Kjell Boersma, who describes himself as “a filmmaker, animator, doodler, cat-owner, rabble-rouser and roustabout from the boreal forests of northern Ontario; And Be Sargent, who works in the mystical Candy Kitchen, an unincorporated area of New Mexico. It’s a reciprocal show – the artists display their works at ART123 in Gallup, N.M., where several of the & artists showed their work earlier this fall.
