The skies are clear at area ski resorts

Timelapse video at Telluride shows crews making snow

Area ski resorts are making snow, even as nature seems to be in a winter slumber. Purgatory Ski Resort, Telluride Ski Resort and Wolf Creek Ski Area are all open. Purg has an 8-inch base, Telluride has a 20-inch base, and Wolf Creek has a 13-inch base.

According to the National Weather Service, it is unlikely any of these places will have a white Christmas. On Wednesday night, some snow may fall at Purgatory. There is a 60 percent chance of snow showers on Thursday. But after that, blue skies and sunshine are in the Christmas forecast.

Wolf Creek Pass has a 50 percent chance of snow showers Wednesday night and Thursday, before skies are clear and sunny into the holiday weekend.

Maybe, just maybe, Telluride will see some snowfall on Thursday. It, too, is only a 50 percent chance. Meanwhile, snow machines and groomers are keeping busy. Telluride photographer Brett Schreckengost caught the crews – and the stars – last week in this wildly beautiful timelapse.
