The U.S. should lead in energy technology

Being a major player toward solving climate change is essential if future generations are going to have an opportunity to participate in the new global economy.

Climate change should not be a political football, it is a nonpartisan issue.

Recent discussions about the president’s trip to Asia make it very clear that China is eager and ready to play the leadership role (along with Europe). This leaves our country out of producing and selling the technology that will bring the world into the new economy fed by renewable energy and forward-looking solutions.

I want my kids and grandkids to not be bound to outdated power grids, obsolete technologies and the consequences of living in an unhealthy environment. We need a fee on carbon to level the energy playing field. We need government to support those who bring us the new technologies, made in the USA.

We need to lead, not follow, the rest of the world to avoid being left behind by ensuring that our kids are the pre-eminent providers of technologies that will feed the new global economy.

Now is not the time, for us as voters, to be complacent. It is time to call on our legislators in federal and state government and tell them to take prompt action.

The future is now!
