Kids tell Grimm tales
Who says kids just play during the summer? Well, some of them do, but others actually have been working hard, practicing for a play at Durango Arts Center Theatre. In “The Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon,” a group of children ages 9 to 13 will recreate and narrate all 209 fairy tales by the Brothers Grimm, including classics such as Rapunzel, Rumpelstiltskin, Hansel and Gretel, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella. Performances are scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday and Saturday at DAC and tickets are $8.

There are plenty of a beautiful things to see in nature, and with recent advancements in camera technology and smartphone capabilities, it seems like everyone is armed with the tools to take great photos. But how we use those tools is another story. Frank Comisar, owner of Scenic Aperture in downtown Durango, provides photography workshops all over the country. From 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday at DAC, he’ll talk about his experiences with nature photography. This event, “A Nature Photographer’s Journey to Durango,” is part of Exhibit 970 Reprise, which is running from June 26 to Aug. 1.
Get the creativity out
Need a release for your creative energy? Try the MeCards Creative Collage workshop at Durango Arts Center, where participants will gather images, write poems and make unique 5-by-8-inch cards with the help of certified hypnotherapist and SoulCollage facilitator Barb Horn. The class is from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday and costs $50, which covers two people. Children younger than 9 must be accompanied by an adult. For more information, visit www.DurangoArts.org/MeCards.
