Things to do in and around Durango

New photos at Open ShutterDespite the recent news of Open Shutter’s closing in November, there’s still a lot of photography to be exhibited in the gallery until then. On Friday, the space will open three new exhibits.

In the Main Gallery, check out Beth Moon’s show “Between Earth and Sky,” which will be on display through Sept. 14. Jeremy Wade Shockley will be showing pieces in the Red Room Gallery and Karen Peterson will have a show in the Vault.

An opening reception will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the gallery, 735 Main Ave.

There’s going to be a party at Animas City TheatrePants Party and Diabolical Sound Platoon are throwing a party you don’t want to miss Friday night at Animas City Theatre, 128 E. College Drive.

This local band double-header will have you shaking your rump to their infectious grooves and ridiculous beats.

Pants Party is a funky dance band made up of Mark Shriver on keyboards; Sam Kelly on alto-sax; Spencer Church on bass; Joe Colomb on drums; Jake Padilla on guitar; Brian Stoneback on tenor-sax; and Jai Jones on vocals.

And Diabolical Sound Platoon, including Obi One as MC, human beat-box and wordsmith; The Prestidigitator as MC and wordsmith; The Human Genome as MC and wordsmith; David Rodriguez on drums; Evan Fricke on electric and upright bass; Russ Crossland on electric guitar; Bryce Staley on trombone; and Kelly Emery on trumpet.

Doors open at 8:30 and the show starts at 9.

This is an 18 and older show.
