Things to do in and around Durango

KSUT’s throwing a party, and you’re invited

As part of its 40th anniversary concert series, Mollie O’Brien and Rich Moore, and Laurie Lewis and Tom Rozum will be taking the stage for an evening of live music on Saturday night at the Henry Strater Theatre, 699 Main Ave.

O’Brien, an internationally-known Americana and bluegrass vocalist, and guitar-playing Moore, are not only a couple on the stage, but in real life as well.

Lewis, an Americana/bluegrass musician, and Rozum on vocals and mandolin, will also take the stage together.

After each couple plays a set, the four will take the stage together for a few songs.

The all-ages show begins at 7:30 p.m., with doors opening at 7.

Tickets are $30 in advance, or $35 at the door. If you don’t want to wait, you can get them at www.henrystratertheatre.com or at Southwest Sound.

For more information, call 375-7160.

Keep the winter festivals coming

Ready to travel at 88 mph? In Silverton? Well, this is your weekend.

Although, we’d advise against actually traveling at 88 mph to Silverton – what with the police and snow and mountain passes and all.

But we digress.

Silverton’s 2016 Snowscape is planning on taking you Back To the Future starting at 4 p.m. Friday and running through Sunday. Snowscape will offer a little bit for everyone, from live music and a talent show, to a snowmobile parade and night skiing. And fireworks. Don’t forget the fireworks.

Most events will, be held at Kendall Mountain unless otherwise specified.

Durango Film to kick it off right

Chances are pretty good you like movies. And beer. And thanks to Durango Film – An Independent Film Festival and Ska Brewing, you can combine the two.

Durango Film has joined up with Ska to create not only the annual film fest that takes over local theaters, but also gives us beer drinkers a special brew to go along with the week.

This year, Ska has created Eleventh Kiwi Saison for the festival. Word from the brewery is that it’s a sturdy farmhouse ale with a mild kiwi tartness.

And to kick the whole thing off, from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Durango Film will host its official beer release/volunteer appreciation party at Ska World Headquarters, 225 Girard St., in Bodo Park. The festival will also be announcing this year’s film selections, which will be shown in venues around town the week of March 2 to 6.

You’ll be able to grab $3 Kiwi Saison pints and enjoy some Zia Taqueria while you show off your movie trivia dominance.

And don’t forget to hug a Durango Film volunteer.
