Folk, bluegrass and beauty

See nationally acclaimed musicians at this weekend’s10th annual Pagosa Folk ’N Bluegrass festival. B from Friday afternoon until Sunday evening. Party in Dolores

There’s something for everyone Saturday at the 12th annual Dolores River Festival in Joe Rowell Park. The festival, which begins at 10 a.m., features live music by nine bands, with soul group Pimps of Joytime headlining at 6 p.m. and Durango bluegrass band Liver Down the River at 4 p.m. The “kid zone” will include acrobats, magicians and stilt-walkers from the Salida Circus. And, of course, people are encouraged to raft the river and watch the river parade. Adult tickets are $20, and kids 12 and younger are free. Tent camping is $10, and RV parking is $20. Getting controversial

“In Bloom,” the new play at the Durango Arts Center Theatre, is adapted from possibly the sexiest chapter in James Joyce’s Ulysses, one of the most controversial literary works of modern times. Director Aaron Beck describes the book, which was banned for decades, as “a circus of words, so we really had to make a circus on stage with the words.” Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Author returns to Durango

Todd Fahnestock has a knack for writing best-selling fantasy novels, and it all began here. , and now lives in EnglewoodMeet him at 6:30 p.m. Friday at his Maria’s Bookshop book-signing. He’ll be there to talk about his newest book, Fairmist, which was published in February.
