The Weekender

Some top picks for what to do this Weekend in and around Durango.

Party like it’s Prohibition

PSST ... if you and your best dame or guy got nothin’ going on Saturday night, get yourselves all spiffed up, sneak around the Ninth Street side of the B.P.O.E. building and enter the “book depository” at 6 p.m. for the 507 Speakeasy Street charity ball.

Once you’re in, enjoy an evening of ’20s-themed drinks, food, costume contest, photo ops and casino games that will benefit local charities supported by B.P.O.E. No. 507.

Get a wiggle on to music by 7 Sharp 11, DJ Cadillac and Simone Sanchez & the Machine.

Tickets are 25 clams per person in advance, 30 bucks at the door, which includes hors d’oeuvres and other nibbles, plus 5 bucks in chips to get you started at the tables. Advance tickets may be purchased at the Elks Lodge.

For more information, call Gina Romano at 749-3392.

Shake what the good lord gave you with PANTS PARTY!!!

You have been cordially invited to PANTS PARTY!!! on Saturday night at the Balcony Backstage.

PANTS PARTY!!!, from Durango, is a high-energy musical experience guaranteed to make even your grandmother get up to get down. Made up of musicians who play original, old and new school funk, the group welcomes local musicians to join in and fatten up their infectious grooves.

Get ready, Durango, ‘cause PANTS PARTY!!! is going to lay some new stuff on you!

The booty-shaking will commence at 9 p.m. at the Balcony, 600 Main Ave.

The Main Squeeze serving it up fresh

There’s no shortage of opportunities to let it all hang out on the dance floor Saturday night. The Main Squeeze will be celebrating the release of its CD, “Mind Your Head,” with a two-set performance at Animas City Theatre.

Seamlessly blending rock, funk and soul, Chicago-based The Main Squeeze will keep you moving with “freshly squozen” music all night.

Joining The Main Squeeze will be Evanoff, a Boulder-based band that combines classic rock with contemporary dance music in a genre they like to call “dream rock.” This is the first of three shows for the band in Durango: They will also be performing Nov. 20 at The Balcony Backstage and Nov. 21 at Derailed Pour House.

Tickets are $12 and are available at www.durangomassive.com.
