The Weekender

Some top picks for what to do this weekend in and around Durango

Dig Digg at the Balcony Backstage

If you like String Cheese Incident, Umphrey’s McGee and the Allman Brothers, then you’ll be in good company Saturday night when the band Digg plays at the Balcony Backstage.

Hailing from Denver, Will Crossland on guitar and vocals; Aaron Sandry on drums; Jesse Darrow on bass; and Joshua Rutherford on keyboards play a unique fusion of rock, blues, funk and jazz – pretty much covering a bunch of musical genres, so there will be a little bit of something for everyone. And with a blend of original music and covers, Digg promises a high-energy live performance that will keep you on your feet.

Digg will take the stage at 8 p.m. Saturday at the Balcony,

Check out The Crags in Mancos

Sometimes, a night out of Durango city limits is just what the doctor ordered. If you’re feeling the itch to get outta Dodge, take a drive out to Mancos, where Durango band The Crags will be playing Saturday night at the Mancos Distillery, 116 N. Main Street.

Front woman Tracy Ford, Dan Leek on upright bass, Jim Ford on drums and Tim Lillyquist on lead guitar will hit you with their own variety of musical styles, incorporating surf, rock psyche, Spaghetti Western and more.

Doors will open at 5, and the music will start at 7, so you have plenty of time to get there. Cover is 3 bucks.

Head to Greener Grounds

This is a great weekend for live music in Durango. Another show rocking the town is Greener Grounds & Tweed, who will be performing Friday night at the Animas City Theatre.

Denver-based Greener Grounds is a five-piece jam band that has hit the jamtronica scene hard, and with their message of making the world a greener, more unified place, their vibes are nothing but positive.

And with Tweed you’ll get a high-energy performance featuring funk, rock and electronica – perfect for boogying away what will probably be a cold winter evening.

The show will start at 9 p.m. at Animas City Theatre. Tickets are $10/$12 and are available at Southwest Sound and www.durangomassive.com.
