Some top picks of what to do in and around Durango

Drop by Dr. Frank N. Furter’s for a swinging time

This year, Brad, Janet and everyone’s favorite “Sweet Transvestite” mad scientist, Dr. Frank N. Furter, have been dropped into the mod scene of the 1960s. Why don’t you stay for the night or maybe a bite – in a time when miniskirts, Twiggy and Swinging London were all the rage?

For the eighth consecutive year, the Henry Strater Theatre, 699 Main Ave., will host Richard O’Brien’s “Rocky Horror Show – Live on Stage.” Audience members are encouraged to get into the spirit of the show by dressing as their favorite “Rocky” character – and adding a ’60s twist to it.

Showtimes for Friday are 7 p.m. for all ages, with doors opening at 6:30 p.m., and 10 p.m. for a 21-and-older viewing. Doors for this show will open at 9:30 p.m. Both shows Saturday are 21-and-older, with the first at 7:30 p.m. (doors open at 7 p.m.), and 10:30 p.m. (doors open at 10 p.m.).

Tickets are $20 for adults in advance and $25 at the door. Students are $18 with ID.

And “Rocky Horror” wouldn’t be “Rocky Horror” without props for the audience – attendees may purchase prop bags for $5 at the theater.

For more information or to buy tickets, call the Henry Strater Theatre box office at 375-7160.

Celebrate All Souls Day with Hello, Dollface

Hello Dollface will be honoring the past and celebrating the future from 8:30 p.m. to midnight Friday at Guido’s Favorite Foods, 1201 Main Ave.

Also helping the band celebrate will be the Taos, New Mexico-based burlesque group the Unstrung Pearls Dance Troupe.

Entry to the celebration is $10, which includes one cocktail. The show will begin at 9 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to wear their classiest calavera attire and traditional sugar-skull makeup.

Tickets for this event are limited, and it is likely to sell out by Saturday night.

For more information and tickets, call Guido’s at 259-5028.

Day of the Dead at Studio &

Studio & is also celebrating the lives of those who have passed with its group show, “Revival of Lost Souls: An Art Exhibit Celebrating Things Gone” at the studio, 1027 Main Ave.

Along with the display of original artwork, the studio will feature an altar, and visitors are invited to bring items to display on it. Costumes are encouraged.

The show will run Friday through Nov. 8, with an opening reception to be held from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday. Entry is free.

For more information, call (773) 263-1279.
