100 years ago: A classified wanted advertisement read: “Wanted – information as to death of Leonard E. Johnson, miner, who died in this vicinity about May or June 1887. Any person knowing about same communicate with this office.”

75 years ago: This appeared in the Upper Florida News section: “A heavy frost killed most of the potatoes and gardens on the river.”

50 years ago: “An average of 581 tourists are spending the night in the Durango and Vallecito area according to a survey made by the Chamber of Commerce.”

25 years ago: “A 52-year-old Oregon man, rescued by helicopter at night after being critically injured when his horse fell in the Weminuche Wilderness, was reported in satisfactory condition at a Durango hospital. He and his wife were plucked from a campsite on the rugged Los Pinos River by an Air Force helicopter using night-vision techniques and a 200-foot cable.”
