There’s still lots to do this summer

Summer is winding down and parents are starting to think about back to school time, with Durango schools starting in less than three weeks. Where did summer go?

There still are plenty of events coming up in late summer with something to do for everyone.

This Saturday, Michael Franti and Spearhead return to Three Springs. If past shows by this artist are any indication, it will be a great time. Tickets are still available but going fast. Visit MichaelFranti.com to learn more and get your tickets today.

Next week is the La Plata County Fair, held from Aug. 10 to 14 at the La Plata County Fairgrounds. This is a great time for the entire family, with rodeos, rides, a corn shucking competition, the 4H BBQ cookoff and the ever popular demolition derby.

The Durango Blues Train makes its final runs of 2016 with trains running on Aug. 12 and 13. All tickets for the train on the 13th are sold, but there are still tickets available for the 12th. The Blues Train has become very popular because of the quality of the musicians playing in the unique atmosphere of our train. Go to DurangoBluesTrain.com to get your tickets today.

Speaking of the train, Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad hosts the RailRocker Festival Aug.18 to 21. Formerly known as Railfest, this event celebrates the proud culture of the toughest of the men and women who settled these parts by building mountain railroads to find their riches and dreams. New this year is a Murder Mystery Train, plus a rare night photo shoot at the Silverton Depot. Learn all about it at DurangoTrain.com

Paula Poundstone performs at the Community Concert Hall at Fort Lewis College on Friday Aug. 19. Her hilarious show will have you laughing and will most likely sell out. Get your tickets at DurangoConcerts.com

Saturday Aug. 27 brings us two events – the Thirsty 13 Half Marathon and the 18th annual San Juan Brewfest. There might be a few spots left for this year’s half marathon, but hurry to claim your spot by registering at Thirsty13.com.

After the Thirsty 13, head over to Buckley Park for the largest beer tasting festival in the Four Corners, the San Juan Brewfest. This year the Brewfest features 54 craft breweries, three live bands, and all proceeds benefit United Way of Southwest Colorado. The Brewfest has sold out for the past two years, so don’t wait to get your ticket. Buy yours at SanJuanBrewfest.com before it’s too late.
