With sunny skies and a crisp fall morning, the sheep trailing and Bayfield Heritage Days events were held on Friday and Saturday for their 19th annual celebration.
The Bar D Wranglers and local folk band Agave performed Friday night at the fundraiser for the Pine River Valley Heritage Society Museum. Music lovers also enjoyed a dinner of barbecue brisket and homemade cookies for dessert at the Bayfield Community Gym.
On Saturday, Boy Scout Troop 506 held their 5K run, followed by the sheep trailing, courtesy of J. Paul Brown and family.
This year's Heritage Days parade featured a special entry by members of Calvary Presbyterian Church in honor of their 120th anniversary, while the Bayfield Lions Club float commemorated members' 65 years of service to the community.
The grand marshals this year are three women who volunteered for the first committee for Heritage Days in 2000 - Geri Lasater, Carole McWilliams and Debbie Janus.
After the parade, there were events, food and more live music by Agave in Joe Stephenson Park. The evening's fireworks were sponsored by the Town of Bayfield and delayed from the Fourth of July due to fire danger. The fireworks show delighted kids of all ages in the park.
In 2017, the sheep trailing was held, but other activities had to be canceled due to a huge rainstorm and lightning that arrived that weekend on Saturday morning.
This year's events were organized by members of the Pine Valley Heritage Society, Pine River Rotary, Bayfield Lions Club, Pine River Library and Boy Scout Troop 506. Sponsors are the Ballantine Family Fund, Southwest Ag, Pine River Times, TBK Bank and Bayfield Realty. Events were sponsored by Momentum Fitness, La Plata County Farm Bureau, AJ's Greenhouse, the Billy Goat Saloon and Jenni Berkman of Dogs Happen Dog Training.
