They’re back ...

So, you thought those hordes of cyclists left town after Memorial Day weekend? Take a deep breath.

Ride the Rockies will arrive in Durango on Monday with an expected influx of about 2,400 two-wheelers and their spandex-clad riders. The bicyclists and their entourages are part of The Denver Post’s annual cycling tour of the state.

The route changes every year, and the last time it came through Durango was 2010. This year, the 513-mile route will begin Sunday in Telluride, spend the night in Cortez and continue 64 miles to Durango on Monday. The tour will head to Pagosa Springs on Tuesday, finally ending Saturday in Colorado Springs.

Durango will welcome the riders at an entertainment and beer garden from 3 to 9 p.m. Monday at Buckley Park, between 12th and 13th streets on Main Avenue.

Riders will congregate overnight at Durango High School and the La Plata County Fairgrounds. By Tuesday morning, they’ll be down the road.
