For 18 years, Bayfield has celebrated autumn and harvest-time with its Heritage Days and Sheep Trailing event.
The Heritage Days kick-off event will be held at the South Street Gym on Friday, Sept. 28. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. At 6:30, the Pine River Valley Heritage Society will serve beef brisket with potato salad, beans and trimmings. Agave, a local folk-Americana band, will provide the dinner entertainment. The evening will end with a show by the Bar-D Wranglers. Tickets are $20 and are at the Bayfield museum on Mill Street, First National Bank in Bayfield, Community Bank of Colorado and Southwest Ag. On Sept. 30, the day will kick off with a 5k run starting at 8 a.m. sponsored by Boy Scout Troop 506. The registration form is online at www.bayfieldcoheritagedays.org.
Registration is $20.
The sheep will come down the Buck Highway at about 9 a.m. (give or take - they're on sheep time!) The parade will take place immediately after on Mill Street. Please keep your dogs home for the sheep trailing on the Buck Highway and stay out of the street.
Activities in the park include kids' games, handicraft demonstrations, vendors, and live music by Agave.
Heritage Days is organized by volunteers from the heritage society, Bayfield Lions Club, Pine River Rotary, Pine River Library and Farm Bureau. This year's sponsors are Bayfield Realty, Southwest Ag, First National Bank of Durango and Community Bank of Colorado.
Heritage Days T-shirts, long-sleeve shirts and hoodies are available at the Pine River Times office at 823 County Road 501, on the east side of the Bayfield Realty building.
