The Durango Voice singing competition is back for its second year, and you’re invited to audition for a spot on the Henry Strater Theatre stage.
The competition, which is a fundraiser for Manna Soup Kitchen, is patterned after the television show “The Voice.” Interested singers are asked to submit a sample of their singing by email on MP3. Organizers ask that your singing sample is of your voice only – no singing along or with another voice. Competitors have until Feb. 4 to get in their submissions.
RubiStarr Randazzo, one of the event’s organizers, said entires have started rolling in.
“There’s a lot of talent in Durango,” she said. “It’s a very talented community.”
Those chosen from the initial call will perform on stage at a blind performance, where four judges will have their backs to the singers, turning to face them only if they feel they can coach a particular singer to victory.
Coaches then have a month to get their singers up to speed before the final show, where it all gets decided and a winner is crowned.
On top of it being a serious competition, it’s also helps a local cause, Randazzo said.
“For me, it’s just seeing the community come together in support of Manna,” she said. “And just seeing the joy on the performers’ faces when the audience is cheering for them and they know they’ve given it all they could.”
Sponsorship opportunities are still available as well. For more information, contact Elaine Chick at durangovoice2@gmail.com.
