Third Durango man arrested in online sex sting is sentenced

Each defendant receives similar consequences

The third Durango man caught in an online sex sting was sentenced Friday to 45 days in jail followed by three years’ probation.

In February, the Durango Police Department posted fake ads to the internet to elicit responses from people who were interested in having sexual contact with minors.

Three men were arrested: Oscar Ramiro Contreras, Dustin Lowell Morris and Benjamin Molyneux.

Specifically, the men were arrested on suspicion of luring a child through the internet, internet exploitation of a child and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Each man has been given a similar sentence, Judge Todd Norvell said at a court hearing Friday. Molyneux was the last of the three to be sentenced after previously pleading guilty.

Molyneux was sentenced to 45 days in jail followed by 45 days of electronic home monitoring. After serving jail time, he will be on probation for three years and have to complete various treatments.

“I hope you take the treatment seriously,” Norvell said. “It’s going to benefit you. ... You’re going to have to be really honest with yourself and other people.”
