Thank you for the story of Martin Geobany Terazzas' detention by ICE (Herald, Sept. 10). While I absolutely believe that employers and immigrants need to abide by the laws of this country, to have masked personnel conducting a kidnapping-style apprehension of a non-violent person is appalling.
This is not who we should aspire to be as U.S. citizens. This man is a human being, and we would do well to remember that. To the Bayfield resident who presumably felt it was his patriotic duty to participate in this farce, I say your energy and time would have been better spent leaning on your congressional representative, for that is where the true failure lies. Congress and every president since Reagan have utterly failed to produce any effective guest worker or immigration legislation in lieu of worrying about their own reelection.
