Natural gas and oil production does a lot for our state. From supporting over 200,000 jobs to providing revenue for government services, our lives are enriched thanks to our energy industry. I don’t understand why some legislators are supporting a bill that would end much of this state’s energy development.
SB 181, a bill that has been recently introduced, will effectively impose a moratorium on new natural gas and oil production, empower local governments to enact rules that would end production within their borders and impose other restrictions that would make it impossible for much of the state’s energy development to continue.
The voters said NO to Proposition 112 during the last election. That proposition would have had the same effects as SB 181. Legislators who are supporting this new anti-energy bill are looking for a sneaky way to overturn the will of the voters. That’s wrong.
Responsible energy production provides many benefits to Colorado. Our state’s voters recognized this in November. Legislators should respect what the voters said and oppose SB 181 and the massive government overreach it represents.
